Tattoo Aftercare
Taking care of your tattoo is just as important as getting it. Proper aftercare ensures your tattoo heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. Everyone’s skin is different, but these are the general steps I recommend after your appointment.
The tattoo process starts with your artist and ends with you.
As a general rule of thumb, treat your new tattoo as an open wound for two weeks.
To ensure you have the best tattoo possible, it’s imperative you take proper care of your fresh piece.
Aftercare Instructions
• Remove your wrap within 1–2 hours after your appointment.
• Wash your hands, then gently clean your tattoo with Dial antibacterial soap and warm water.
• Pat dry with a clean paper towel — don’t rub.
• Apply a small amount of A&D or Aquaphor 2–3 times per day for the first 2–3 days.
After the first 3 days:
• Stop using any petroleum-based products.
• Switch to a fragrance-free lotion (any brand is fine as long as it’s unscented).
• Limit how hot and how long you shower for at least a week.
• Do not submerge your tattoo in water — no pools, baths, or oceans.
• If you have pets, be extra careful — pet dander can easily cause an infection.
• Avoid the sun, beach, and tanning while your tattoo is healing.
• Do not apply sunscreen to a healing tattoo.
The best thing you can do for your new tattoo is to leave it alone as much as possible.
Second Skin Instructions
• Second skin can be left on for 3–5 days.
• The wrap is waterproof, so you may shower as normal, but do not submerge your tattoo underwater.
• Avoid pools, the beach, and direct sunlight — second skin offers no UV protection.
• It’s normal for a small “ink sack” to form under the wrap.
• If the wrap is punctured or exposed, remove it and follow the standard aftercare steps above.Removing Second Skin:
• The best way to remove it is in the shower.
• Peel the top edge down a bit and let water get underneath to loosen the adhesive.
• Peel the wrap over itself like a banana — don’t yank it off.
• Once removed, wash the tattoo gently with warm water and antibacterial soap.
• Pat dry with a paper towel and apply a small amount of unscented lotion.
Touch-Ups
Touch-ups are handled on a case-by-case basis at no cost.
If the tattoo aftercare was neglected or the tattoo wasn’t properly treated, standard rates will apply.
If you think you need a touch-up after it’s fully healed (about 6–8 weeks), fill out the form below.
